Taxonomy and Biology

Adult length: 13.5mm

Description

Dorsal surface head and body and flank colour is black with yellow dorsolateral stripes that commence on the snout, pass over the eye and extend to the posterior body where they may bifurcate. A short, yellow vertebral stripe is often present extending from the snout to about midbody. An often incomplete, yellow, lower lateral flank stripe is present usually extending from the snout to the arm insert and recommenced at midbody and extending to the posterior body. Arms and legs are black usually with yellow longitudinal stripes ( complete or incomplete forming spots ) or sometimes more yellow than black. Head venter is black with some yellow spotting. Ventral body surface is yellow with black marbling or spotting.

Habitat

Elevations up to about 800 metres in humid rainforest.

Habits

Diurnal and terrestrial frog that inhabits the forest floor leaf litter, especially amongst tree roots but has been found 1 or 2 metres above ground in trees and vines.

Prey

Feeds mainly on ants and mites.
