Taxonomy and Biology

Adult length: 31mm

Description

Head dorsum, dorsal surface body and flank colour is black with two broad, usually orange ( yellow to reddish ), transverse bands. The anterior band is located posterior to the head and the posterior band commences on or near the hump of the back. In some specimens the bands may be incomplete ( usually vertebrally ) formed by fusion of black pigment. The snout and head venter is usually orange ( yellow to reddish ) with or without some encroachment of black bands. Orange ( yellow to reddish ) and black dorsal banding continues across the ventral surface but may become irregular. Arms and legs are black and orange ( yellow to reddish ) banded. Most specimens have 2 broad black bands ( one at the base of the arm and hind leg and one toward the fingers and toes ) with a single, broad, orange ( yellow to reddish ) band between them. However, 2 to 4 black and 2 or 3 orange bands is not uncommon especially on the hind legs. Finger and toe tips are usually white to silvery.
