Dendrobates virolinensis
Taxonomy and Biology Adult length: 14mm Description Head dorsum and about the anterior two-thirds of the dorsal body surface is bright scarlet red with the posterior about one-third of the body, arms and legs brown or purplish brown with scarlet red granules. Head venter is scarlet red. Ventral surface body colour is chocolate brown with bluish grey spotting or blotching. Habitat Elevations between about 1700 and 1850 metres in selva forest ( scrub and dry forest ) with oaks and bromeliads. Habits Diurnal and mainly arboreal inhabiting bromeliads and small trees up to about 2 metres above ground. Prey Feeds mainly on mites and sometimes small insects ( including ants ).
