| Our databases cover all species of snakes in the venomous families Elapidae,
Viperidae and Atractaspididae and selected species from Colubridae. We use the
most recent taxonomy available to us, therefore if you use an old scientific
name you may not find the species you are looking for. For searches based on
geographic area, always use Country first before selecting Region. Region works
only as an OR selection in our databases. For example, if a snake is found only
in Australia, it will appear in the Region "Australia", but if it also occurs
in New Guinea, it will only appear in the Region "Australia + New Guinea + Indonesia".
Therefore if you search for all Australian venomous snakes using only Country
"Australia", you will get a complete list. If you search on Region "Australia" instead,
the list will be incomplete, because it will return only those species found
exclusively in Australia. |
