MADAGASCAN POISONOUS FROGS

Taxonomy and Biology Adult length: 21mm Description Dorsal surface colour is pale brown with a dark Y-shaped or triangular shaped marking on the shoulders a dark heart shaped marking on the dorsum and a pair of dark spots posterior to the cloacal region. Head laterally and flanks are dark brown to black with and the border between dorsum and flanks is sharply defined. Ventral surface colour is black with pale blue spotting or speckling. Throat is black with some blue spotting which often forms a semicircular band or line along the lower lip. Hind legs are yellowish brown to orange brown with indistinct darker banding. Arms are usually white, cream to pale brown. Pale areas are present at the side of the body at the junction of arms and legs. Fingers and toes are similar to arm and leg colour respectively. Palms and soles are usually black. Habitat Tropical rainforest at low elevations. Habits Diurnal and terrestrial frog. Prey Feeds mainly on ants and termites.
