CENTRAL / SOUTH AMERICAN POISONOUS FROGS
Epipedobates boulengeri
Taxonomy and Biology Adult length: 15mm Description Head dorsum and dorsal surface body colour is brown with paler and darker spotting or marbling and bordered below with a yellowish, orange or reddish ( often with a brown tint ) dorsolateral stripe commencing posterior to the eye and extending to the groin. Flanks are blackish brown or black. A white to yellowish stripe commences on the upper lip anterior to the eye and extends to the upper arm. At the base of the arms there is usually a white to yellowish patch ( sometimes absent or indistinct ). Remainder of arms and legs are black with yellow to brown irregular spots or stripes. Head venter, throat and ventral body surface is black with white to yellow ( occasionally greenish ) marbling. Habitat Elevations up to about 1200 metres in rainforest. Habits Diurnal and terrestrial frog. Prey Feeds mainly on ants and beetles. Poison Activity Poison Type: No information available
