CENTRAL / SOUTH AMERICAN POISONOUS FROGS
Epipedobates petersi
Taxonomy and Biology Adult length: 21mm Description Head dorsum, dorsal body surface and flanks are black or blackish brown with brown or reddish brown granules. A white to yellowish flank stripe extends from the snout ( continuous around the snout ), passes above the eye. and extends to the groin region A white to blue stripe extends from the lip margin to the insertion of the arm. Arms are brown with a few blackish spots and a yellowish patch or stripe at the base of the arm. Legs are brown with a few scattered dark spots and often more olive brown or greenish brown on the thighs. Head venter and throat is mainly black with some blue marbling. Ventral body surface and often the ventral surface of arms and legs are marbled blue and black. Habitat Lowland rainforest up to an elevation of about 800 metres. Habits Diurnal and terrestrial frog. Prey Feeds mainly on ants, beetles and other small insects. Poison Activity Poison Type: Histrionicotoxins, Pumiliotoxins, Decahydroquinolines
