CENTRAL / SOUTH AMERICAN POISONOUS FROGS
Epipedobates pulchripectus
Taxonomy and Biology Adult length: 22mm Description Head dorsum, body dorsum and flanks are black ( sometimes with some bluish pigment on the posterior body and flanks ) with bright yellow to orange dorsolateral stripes commencing on the snout ( continuous around the snout m), passing above the eyes and extending posteriorly to the groin and a bright yellow to orange stripe extending along the lip margin to the base of the arm. Arms and legs are black with some blue spotting, dotting or flecking and there is a bright yellow to orange flash marking at the base of the arm and upper thigh. Head venter, throat, ventral body surface and ventral surface of arms and legs are bright blue with black spotting and marbling. Habitat Wet lowland rainforest at elevations up to about 350 metres. Habits Diurnal and terrestrial frog that inhabits the forest floor leaf litter. Prey Feeds mainly on ants. Poison Activity Poison Type: No information available
