CENTRAL / SOUTH AMERICAN POISONOUS FROGS
Epipedobates azureiventris
Taxonomy and Biology Adult length: 25mm Description Head dorsum, body dorsum and flanks are blackish brown to black with a yellowish orange to bright orange dorsolateral stripe that commences on the snout ( continuous around the snout ), passes over the eyes and extends to the posterior body ( above the thigh ). A bright yellow stripe extends from the lip margin ( commences anterior to, or beneath the eye ) and covers the upper part of the arm ( sometimes broken into 2 short stripes with a breakage at the junction of the arm ) and a bright yellow to bright orange stripe extends from midbody to the groin. Arms and legs are greenish blue spotted and mottled with black. Head venter, throat and ventral surface colour is bright blue with black spotting or marbling. Habitat Elevations of about 700 metres in primary tropical rainforest. Habits Diurnal and terrestrial frog. Prey Feeds mainly on insects. Poison Activity Poison Type: No information available
