CENTRAL / SOUTH AMERICAN POISONOUS FROGS
Epipedobates simulans
Taxonomy and Biology Adult length: 19mm Description Head dorsum and dorsal body surface is mainly blackish with bronze brown highlighting mid-dorsally. Flanks are black with a yellow to yellowish green flank stripe that extends from the snout ( continuous around the snout ), passes above the eye and extends to the groin region A blue or bluish green stripe extends from the lip margin to the base of the arm. Arms are bronze brown with a suffusion of green and black. Legs are bronze brown with suffusion of black and green and a bright yellow patch at the base of the thigh above the groin. Head venter and throat is blue with grey to black suffusion. Ventral body surface and the ventral surface of arms and legs are marbled or reticulated with blue and black. Habitat Elevations between about 400 to 600 metres in lowland wet tropical forest extending into lower montane forest. Habits Diurnal and terrestrial frog.
